Content to Create
1. Submit your written plan for your video documentation.
2. In reviewing Feast For Joseph and Wherever I Go individually or with your students, compose a list of objects or occurrences that you feel are outside of your cultural knowledge or that of your students. Looking deeply at the story and illustrations, what is unfamiliar? Those questions can be as simple as, “Why do the women wrap their hair” or as complex as “Who attacked their village and why?”
These questions will be discussed and compiled in our workshop and then handed to a group of immigrant parents recruited by In Her Presence. The parents will answer the questions and with the same books in front of them, talk about what they wish classroom teachers knew about their children and community.
In a March session, Micky Bondo, the co-founder of In Her Presence, will bring the parent’s answers and comments to us and hold an open dialogue about how we use books to open cultural knowledge and communication.
You can add your questions and observations here.

1. Take the Project Implicit Survey
Print out or capture the results of your survey for further reflection.
Keep in mind, regarding the surveys, each of the surveys focuses on implicit bias. This exercise is intended for participants in the PINE Project to explore their own implicit biases. One might argue that the options we choose say something right off the bat about our implicit biases. You are free to choose whichever strand you are drawn to. I will be choosing one that I know I have some discomfort around to challenge myself and hopefully learn as much as possible.
2. This month PINE Project Blog Posts are due by February 21, 2024. Blog posts are expected to be approximately 200-500 words in length. Please be reflective, but don’t feel the need to overthink or write a “paper.” The blog posts are meant to capture your thoughts about the workshop content and your processes as they relate to the PINE Project.
